In the classical era, the rose was identified with the goddess of love Aphrodite (Greek name) and Venus (Roman Name). In Rome a wild rose would be placed on the door of a room where secret matters were discussed. Thus the phrase sub rosa or “under the rose” which means to keep a secret. These Rose earrings were inspired by the Rose and Teardrop, a fabric design produced in 1923 by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the Scottish architect, designer, water colorist and artist.
