Native to both China and Taiwan, the Ailanthus altissima or “Tree of Heaven” produces unique, spiral seedling pods. These seedlings can be found on female trees, growing from one to two inches long, and are spread through the wind.
The tree has been grown extensively both in China and abroad as a host plant for the ailanthus silkmoth, a moth involved in silk production.
